Clinic of Five Element Acupuncture

What can acupuncture do for me?

Acupuncture can be used to treat many physical conditions, including backache, headaches, PMT, irregular periods, sinusitis, infertility, irritable bowel syndrome and stress. You can also benefit from acupuncture without suffering from a particular ailment, such as when you are feeling off colour or out of sorts, experiencing difficulties at work or unhappiness in a relationship. In these cases acupuncture can help you to cope better.

Acupuncturists treat the whole person and therefore don't distinguish between physical complaints and emotional problems. This means the treatment of physical problems also affects the way you feel in yourself. As well as providing a greater sense of general well being and enhanced enjoyment of life, acupuncture can be an extremely effective and drug free form of pain relief.

You will also find your immune system is better able to withstand flu' and colds and, if you do fall ill, you tend to suffer less and recover more quickly. Many people use acupuncture as a form of preventative medicine.

How does it work?

Very fine, sterile needles are used to stimulate a patient's own energy at points situated along energy pathways (meridians). Meridians run up and down the body, connecting deep inside with the different organs of the body and linking different parts of the body with one another. The needle may therefore be inserted somewhere else along the meridian rather than near the site of the pain.

How long does it take?

The initial consultation and treatment lasts up to two hours, with each subsequent treatment lasting up to an hour.

What results can be expected?

Each patient responds differently to treatment and longstanding problems may take longer to heal than recent ones. Most people need, on average, 4-6 treatments before they experience a noticeable improvement in their condition. Some people may take more than six treatments before they start to get better while others find a marked improvement with the first treatment.

What is the cost?

• Initial consultation and treatment: £110
• 1 hour treatment: £60

Concessions may be available in cases of hardship.

Treatments take place at the Corner House Clinic in West Kirby town centre on the Wirral.
